Clarkrange is a southern Fentress County crossroads, concentrated where U.S. Route 127 meets Tennessee State Route 62 in Tennessee’s western Cumberland Plateau. For residential contractors, those two roads define the practical map: U.S. 127 runs north to Jamestown and south to Crossville, while TN 62 runs east toward Wartburg and west toward Monterey. The community sits just north of Cumberland County, with Clear Creek forming the county line to the south.
The place name goes back to Cyrus Clark, who ran an inn and cattle ranch here in the late 19th century; before that, local farmers used the land as free range for cattle. Clarkrange’s post office dates to 1885, and Clarkrange High School remains a central local landmark as the county district’s only public high school. The crossroads also sits just south of the Tennessee Valley Divide, where nearby drainage splits toward Clear Creek, Slate Creek, and the North Prong of Clear Fork.
