Ethridge is a U.S. Route 43 crossroads town, with Red Hill Road signed as Main Street through town and Lawrenceburg a few miles south on the same highway. Mount Pleasant sits several miles north, so residential contractors working Ethridge tend to think in terms of that north-south U.S. 43 run and the Main Street turnoff rather than a large street grid. By 1914 it was a lumber transloading point with mills feeding material onto trains, then declined after the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and the shift from rail to vehicle traffic. Ethridge incorporated in 1973 and is known today for its Swartzentruber Amish concentration.
