Fairview sits in northwest Williamson County, about twenty-five miles from downtown Nashville and about a mile southwest of the Nashville-Davidson County line. The day-to-day service map is simple and very local: State Highway 100 runs through town, State Route 96 ties it to Interstate 40 and Interstate 840, and those two interstates pass through the city limits. Incorporated on July 28, 1959, Fairview grew as a Nashville-metro town with rural edges rather than as another close-in suburb.
Bowie Nature Park gives Fairview one of its clearest local anchors: roughly 722 acres managed by the city, with the Williamson County Parks and Recreation center and Fairview Ball Park adding the civic side of town life. Camp Marymount, a 340-acre Catholic retreat and summer camp established in 1946, is the place locals know from the camp scenes in Ernest Goes to Camp.
