The place

About Millington.

Millington is a Shelby County city just north of Memphis, and the practical map here is US Highway 51, Veterans Parkway, and Interstate 269, with Veterans Parkway linking the other two. The older story begins in 1878, when George and Mrs. Millington donated land for a town that took his name, followed by a state charter in 1903. The next turn was aviation: Park Field opened in 1917, the Navy returned during World War II, and today Naval Support Activity Mid-South reflects the post-1993 realignment.

That base history still matters for residential work because many military retirees live in and around Millington, while the Millington Regional Jetport keeps the old airfield in local use. Roof and exterior work also carries flood memory here: the Christmas 1987 flood lasted until December 29 and led to the current levee system, and the May 1-2, 2010 flood hit Shady Oaks Mobile Home Community and other parts of town after a levee broke. On the community calendar, Flag City Freedom Celebration on July 4 and September’s Goat Days at the USA Stadium grounds are distinctly Millington.

Tennessee licensing

Know your license before you bid.

Tennessee requires a contractor's license before you bid or quote a price on any job totaling $25,000 or more, materials and labor together. That applies to the contractor running the job, and separately to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing and masonry work whose own share reaches $25,000. The license has to be in hand before the bid goes out, not before the work starts.

Below that, Shelby County is one of the nine Tennessee counties that adopted the Home Improvement law, so residential work in Millington from $3,000 to $24,999 needs a Home Improvement license — remodeling, roofing, painting, decks, driveways, pools and fences included. Most of Middle Tennessee has not adopted it, which is why the answer changes from one county to the next.

Licensing rules are set by the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors, not by LeadChuck. Verified 2026-07-30; confirm with the Board before you rely on it.

Questions from Millington contractors.

Does it cost anything to get listed in Millington?

No. Your public listing is free, and it stays free. You only ever pay when you accept a lead another contractor sends you.

How do leads work in Millington?

Contractors send jobs they can't take to someone who can. The contractor sending the job picks who to send it to based on the lead fee that contractor has posted, so you're never bidding against anyone. You see the job before you decide, and you pay only if you accept it. Payment is by bank transfer — we don't take card payments.

What is the referral program?

Every past customer gets a permanent referral link. When they refer a friend and confirm it, that customer gets a thank-you gift card — you choose the amount — and it's unconditional: they get it whether or not the friend ever books a job. The friend never sees the gift card; they just arrive as a warm introduction.
