Sparta is a White County county-seat town built around its courthouse square on U.S. Route 70, signed locally as Bockman Way. That road still explains the layout: it ties Sparta east toward Crossville and west toward Smithville, while State Route 111 runs the west side toward Cookeville and Spencer. The newer commercial pull is at US 70 and SR 111, but the older story runs through the Calfkiller River and the square.
