The place

About Sunbright.

Sunbright’s layout starts with the old railroad story: the early settlement was called Pine Top, then Stapleton after the Staples family opened the first post office, before the 1879 railroad depot put the Sunbright name on the map. The hills west of town changed the pace again after the 1916 oil field discovery, when Sunbright spent several years as an oil shipping hub and wells spread through the area by 1927. For residential contractors, that history matters because this is not a subdivision-built town; it is a small Morgan County place that formed around a depot, a post office, and the roads that followed.

Today Sunbright is a U.S. Route 27 town on the Cumberland Plateau, with that highway tying it south toward Wartburg and Harriman and north toward Huntsville, Tennessee, and Lexington, Kentucky. State Route 329 meets U.S. 27 in the center of town and runs toward Deer Lodge, while Interstate 40 is reached to the south. Around town, White Oak Creek drains toward the upper Big South Fork of the Cumberland River, and Pilot Mountain marks the divide with the Emory River watershed just south of Sunbright.

Tennessee licensing

Know your license before you bid.

Tennessee requires a contractor's license before you bid or quote a price on any job totaling $25,000 or more, materials and labor together. That applies to the contractor running the job, and separately to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing and masonry work whose own share reaches $25,000. The license has to be in hand before the bid goes out, not before the work starts.

Below that, Morgan County has not adopted Tennessee's Home Improvement law, so there is no separate Home Improvement license for residential jobs under $25,000 in Sunbright. Nine counties did adopt it — Davidson, Rutherford and Robertson among them — so a job across the county line can carry a requirement this one does not.

Licensing rules are set by the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors, not by LeadChuck. Verified 2026-07-30; confirm with the Board before you rely on it.

Questions from Sunbright contractors.

Does it cost anything to get listed in Sunbright?

No. Your public listing is free, and it stays free. You only ever pay when you accept a lead another contractor sends you.

How do leads work in Sunbright?

Contractors send jobs they can't take to someone who can. The contractor sending the job picks who to send it to based on the lead fee that contractor has posted, so you're never bidding against anyone. You see the job before you decide, and you pay only if you accept it. Payment is by bank transfer — we don't take card payments.

What is the referral program?

Every past customer gets a permanent referral link. When they refer a friend and confirm it, that customer gets a thank-you gift card — you choose the amount — and it's unconditional: they get it whether or not the friend ever books a job. The friend never sees the gift card; they just arrive as a warm introduction.
